Royal Flush: A Civic With A Twist !

Heres something not a lot of people quite understand. A Civic EK with another front end and why does it say Isuzu?! Is it conversion? what car is it off? what?! Well to get your mind unboggled. Up in Canada and a few other countries they have the Acura EL and/or Honda Domani. Which is exactly the same chasis as the US model Just a different front end & rear end design. In other other countrys they also have the Isuzu Gemini which was basically a Rebadged Honda Civic with again different exterior/interior aesthetics. If you remember a while back before this generation of civic. Honda & Isuzu also shared the same chasis on their early model Rodeo & Passport. Same concept, same car just different styling. Same with their vans like the Odyssey & Oasis. Theres some fun facts for you guys The more you know! hehe

Up until I saw Kerry Chau EK Hatchback. I’ve seen a couple Civics with this front end on but if anything rare. Typically you will also find this conversion on a four door EK with a matching rear end. A Buddy of mine had the front/rear conversion and was one of my favorite civics back in the day. The car has since been in storage and put away for another day. Anyways! going on… I’ve seen Kerrys Civic floating around the web and caught it in different events but I just really havent had the time to look at it up and close. This passed weekend I attended was one of the guest Judges at the Import Fashion car show and finally got to see the Civic. The first thing I really admired was that he slapped this front end on a hatchback model. Something I personally haven’t seen anyone do and it was different! I like it a lot. Kerry ended up taking Best JDM over at the show that weekend and it was well deserved.

Kerrys EK hatchback has been by far one of my favorites to feature. Its a very unique look with a lot of nice touches to the car. Lets let the picture explain.

Summer love

On Friday night I made plans to head out to the beach with the girls to take a few photos of my car now that I’m happy with my ride height and fitment. Even though it’s summer here in New Zealand, until around 6pm it was pouring with rain and we had a crazy unexpected thunderstorm and I thought we were going to have to cancel. But we saw a patch of sun in the distance and followed it out east and it turned out to be an amazing sunset.

I’ve never hidden the fact that I built this car with the intention of having a good balance of form and function. I want to be able to take my girls out for a drive and I want the car to look good, but if I want to take it out to the track on the weekend there’s nothing stopping me from doing that either.

My wheels are 14×7.5 RS Watanabes with -3 offset all round, painted in a custom pink with House of Kolor fuchsia flake sprayed over top. Shout out to Abbitt from AWfilms for my matching windshield decal too.

I receive a lot of emails asking about my suspension so to answer your questions, the car sits on BC Gold coilovers with the rear tophats in the front and modified tophats in the rear to go lower. Front springs are uncaptive in these photos though. This is the lowest I’ve had the car and although I do need planks to get into most driveways and over bumps, it drives totally fine on the motorway and around town though I do have to drive really carefully. With an extra four girls however it was bottoming out just turning around in the centre of the road and getting stuck on cat’s eyes. Residents watching from the street were looking at us like we were absolutely mad, it was cool.

Heres a car I’ve always been very fond of and very happy to feature. I met the owner James Oliver a while back at Illest Los Angeles. Often James comes by to chill at our LA Boutique to hang out with the staff. When his ride is parked out front this car attracts so much attention from the locals patrons. His iPhone white Work Equips probably luring them all in , haha. Tonight when we met up a small group of people surrounded his car to take photos and even help him find a parking spot! This car is a perfect example of size & fitment. If you ever see this car in person take notice to the wheel setup, ride height and undamaged fenders, hhaha! hey nice fenders are a rarity nowadays! Anyways Enjoy. Spec will be posted soon.

Tonights shoot was located in Downtown LA Industrial area.

I’ve always love the uniqueness people put into there cars. Especially when their cars are unique to begin with. Not only do they have to deal with the limited resources and the rarity of the parts for their cars. But also they have to think outside the box with customizing and styling. Normandie Manlapas Toyota Estima(previa) brings a whole diffèrent perspective of vehicle customization. I’ve seen my fair share of Civics, Integras, 240sx, 350z, rx7, ls, gs, sti, evos & the list goes on! But this van you can stop, stare & admire it much more. This ride is definitely on my favorite list.

I remember back then when Peter first got his car, he asked me if he should get a red or a white S2K. I told him red. Because the women flock to the red. A week later, we’re top down in his car with our tank tops and sunglasses. Summer passes and I don’t see him for a couple of months. BAM. He shows up to my house, slammed with a hardtop and some custom powder coated WORK XD9s.Clean and simple, that was the goal Peter had in mind for his car. Didn’t want overly crazy fitment that ruined fenders and didn’t want his car to be too low that he would have to repaint his front end every other week.Going through the pictures, the first thing you probably noticed was the custom powder coated Work XD9s. They were powder coated a solar rain finish. Brilliant contrast with his new formula red paint.Even though Peter was only aiming for the clean look, his car still manages to break necks left and right. Every car show, I really do mean EVERY car show I ever went with him he always has a different girl checking out his car and asking questions while he is quick detailing it. Women love the red. Overall a very nice build and just recently Peter sold the XD9s and now saving up for something special. Be on the look out for his next feature on hella flush with bigger and better things! Now to end it with some awesome rolling shots.

At big car events there are always a few rides that I realise I never pay enough attention to until after the show, especially when there is so much awesomeness in one place at one time! After the Nationals comp there was one car that really stuck in my mind, so over the weekend I took a trip down to Hamilton to take a closer look at Anthony Wong’s immaculate ’97 EK sedan.

Seeing the custom paint in the sunlight made a huge difference to the overall appearance of the car since last time I saw it under dark artificial lighting. This is definitely one of the cleanest Civics I’ve set my sights on.

Digging Wong’s reverse faced BBS LMs (17×8.5 and 17×9.5) bolted to Civic Type R 5-stud hubs, and the Spoon carbon front lip.

Damn I wish my engine bay could look this tidy!

The EK runs a K20A 2-litre DOHC VTEC from a DC5 Integra Type R, I’m loving the imposing intake manifold and the super-clean, super-simple seam welded and shaved bay.

Interior features a custom ‘Wong’s Engineering’ harness bar too.

It only took Wong 7 or 8 years of jerking around to get the car to how you see it here today. At one stage he threw in the towel and even sold it to someone else, but last year he had a change of heart and bought it back, finally finishing what he started. The main thing I really enjoy about this build is the attention to detail and the quality parts that have been put into it. Everything has been replaced, repainted and re-done and it really shows – this photo will give you some idea. Mad props to Wong for doing things once and doing them right. It was worth the wait!
